     PARTICIPANT INFORMATION STATEMENT

Title:      

Comparative situational analysis of young people’s and health education providers’ views  about effectiveness of HIV/AIDS/STI communication media”

 

(1) What is the study about?

This is a research study about media and methods of communication used to educate young adult people about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) and STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections). The main purpose of this study is to examine opinions about the most appropriate media to communicate with and educate young adults in Australia about HIV/AIDS/STI in different situations.

 (2) Who is carrying out the study?

 The study is being conducted by Mr. Abdalvahed Razaghi and will form the basis for the PhD degree in the Faculty of Health Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Ian Hughes, Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney. 

(3) What does the study involve? 

The research will be conducted through a mixed method including an online questionnaire and semi-structured individual interview. Interviews will be audio recorded then transcribed. 

(4) How much time will the study take?

The online questionnaire should not take more than 10 minutes of your time. Interview will generally take between 45 minutes to one hour if you are eligible and you agree to participate in an interview.

 (5) Can I withdraw from the study?

 Being in this study is completely voluntary. You may withdraw at any time.

  (6) Will anyone else know the results?

 All aspects of the study, including results, will be strictly confidential and only the researchers will have access to information on participants. A thesis will be written and reports of the study may be submitted for publication, but individual participants will not be identifiable in any report.

 (7) Will the study benefit me?

 There are no direct, tangible benefits from participating, but the information you provide should help improve health education programs.

You can tell other people about the study.

 (9)  Am I eligible to participate?

You are eligible if you are 18-28 years old.
