Basic Planning Questions 

Basic questions to consider for planning can be grouped into four groups: action, resource, support, and problem questions.

Action questions

  • Who must do what?

  • To whom, for whom, and with whom?

  • Where and when and how?

Resource questions

  • What resources will I need?

  • What resources will others need?

  • Who must do what to obtain what resources?

Support questions

  • What support will I need,

  • What support will others need?

  • Who must do what to obtain it?

  • What problems will I encounter?

  • What problems will others encounter?

  • Who must do what to obtain what support?

Problem Questions

  • What problems will I encounter

  • What problems will others encounter?

  • Who must do what to solve those problems?

Use the Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge to investigate which Project Management Knowledge Areas are relevant to each of the four groups of planning questions. Write these in the table below.
