Identify the major lines of business (LOB) that organisation or project will provide. These are the services or products offered, or what we are good at. Use the strategic modelling form to identify potential conflicts between LOB, or between business now and later.

Establish the critical success indicators (CSI) which help the organisation to track its success (criteria for success). These are important for evaluation. A number of measures can be used, such as share of the market, revenue, profit, increase in service provided, number of people helped, and so on. These measures should be related to the statement of the purpose, the lines of business, and who will be responsible to achieve these defined goals.

Example:

CSI

Actual 2000

Target 2001

Target 2002

Number of students

Number of graduates

Number of subjects

Develop mechanisms to make sure that the success indicators that are used measure achievement of the statement of purpose. This is part of process evaluation.

Determine the culture that is necessary to reach the statement of purpose. What kind of organisational culture is necessary to reach the objectives? What should be the common understanding of the members of the organisation to follow the plan? The details of the culture should to be articulated.
