Learning Set RecordNote: This form of recording is not currently used. In Research Learning Circles, from the start of 2006 we are using SharePoint Web Logs to maintain a record of progress. Download the Learning Set forms (in RTF format) onto your hard disk. Check the pages are correctly laid out, then print as many copies as you need. You will want one copy of the first page, and several copies of the remaining pages for each meeting. The Projects form and Items form both use two columns. Record your observations in the right hand column (a summary of what you hear is actually said). Leave the left hand column blank during the meeting (unless you have previous experience of reflection-in-action that enables you to make process notes during the meeting. After the meeting, use the left-hand column to record what was not said. Your hunches or intuitions of topics that were avoided, process notes of how things were done (rather than what was done, which goes into the right-hand column). Make only brief notes, so that record keeping does not distract you from attention to the lives experience of the learning set. It is more important to participate fully, and facilitate other's learning, than to finish the meeting with an excellent record of a meeting in which no real learning took place. Try to record your own meeting time, in a simular way to how you record other people's time. Make notes on what each participant did since the last meeting (their reflection), and briefly, what they intend to do before the next (planning). Use the Agenda items page in a similar way, to record the content and process of the agreed agenda items. The final, blank page, is for you to keep your own notes in your own way. You can use it to doodle, make diagrams, note interesting ideas or useful concepts, make rough jottings, or anything else. Treat your Learning Set Record with respect. Though not a secret document, you should respect the feelings of fellow participants, and maintain reasonable confidentiality.
