Ground Rules For A Learning Set

There's got to be something in it for everyone, or it won't last. Making sure each of you benefits should be the basis for your ground rules. Here are a few you can choose from and adapt to your own circumstances (better still, formulate improved ones).

 We respect each other.

  • We respect the information we learn about each other.
  • We recognise the limits to confidentiality.
  • No smoking in meetings
  • Don't phone people at work about learning projects

One person speaks at a time

  • Really listen to each other
  • Be constructive and positive, and honest
  • Don't be too serious all the time, learning can be fun
  • Don't make fun when I'm trying to be serious.
  • Switch hand phones off in meetings

We make a commitment

  • Attend and participate in all scheduled set meetings (additional meetings are voluntary).
  • Overall, put in at least your fair share and expect others to do the same.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning
  • Don't do other people's work for them, but help them do it.
  • Share the facilitation. Each of us takes responsibility for helping all of us.
  • Use the learning set e-mail list

Meta-rules

  • We agree to follow these rules
  • These ground rules can be changed through negotiation.
