About this site

AROW, Action and Research Open Web has four parts.

A: Action is an on-line workspace containing information and action projects that are not primarily research (though we hope they will include learning and knowledge creation).

R: Research contains a virtual laboratory with Internet research projects, research project webs, and access to software and other resources for researchers, as well as the journal Action Research e-Reports.

O: Open Learning offers free access to 16 learning modules that are parts of courses, including the Action Research Electronic Reader

W: Web and networks includes links to Web resources and networks related to action and research, as well as information about the AROW web site.

AROW is an interdisciplinary learning system concerned with action research and Internet research in health, psychology and related fields. The main components are:

  • AROW Web site,
  • AROW Group of people who run AROW
  • AROW Lab, a proposed physical e-Lab
  • AROW networks including ih-l, an international discussion list.

History

Action Research On Web (AROW)  was first offered in 1995 from the Faculty of Health Sciences web server. In 1996 AROW was revised, and moved to the Yooroang Garang web server, and in 1998 moved to the Department of Behavioural Sciences extranet. In 1999 the site was again revised, using the Faculty of Health Sciences Web Education System. The style of the logo, headers and buttons has been retained throughout.  In 2000 the site was returned to the Faculty of Health Sciences web server, which we hope will be a permanent arrangement. In 2004 we changed the name from  Action Research On Web  to Action and Research Open Web (AROW). More about the history of AROW is included in Hughes, I. (2002). Action Inquiry and Organisational Change in an Educational Setting. Action Research E-Reports, 15.
