BACH5328 Evaluating Health Interventions

Researchers and professionals evaluate health interventions to improve knowledge of health, and clinical practice, and to support decision making for improved health services. This unit enables students to make informed choices amongst a range of evaluation perspectives, theories, methods and designs.

Learning outcomes

During the course of one semester, participants will

  1. Describe the characteristics of four evaluation perspectives, six evaluation designs and a number of data collection methods.
  2. Examine one type of evaluation in depth.
  3. Write a plan to evaluate a health intervention, and critically evaluate this plan.

Participation

BACH5328 is offered to on-campus and off-campus students through this Internet site. Regular classes are not scheduled, though some on-campus meetings may be arranged if there is sufficient demand.  

Each student must complete three learning modules:
    Module 1: Evaluating Health Interventions
    Module 2: One approach in depth
    Module 3: Evaluation design

It is essential to purchase the text book:

Ovretveit, John (1998) Evaluating Health Interventions, Buckingham: Open University Press.
