Membership also supports our representative body and enables access to regularly updated job advertisements. Additional benefits of membership include:
AAESS Website The AAESS website provides a number of useful resources and information for Exercise and Sport Science students and graduates. A search tool is available via the Find an Accredited Exercise Physiologist link, which can be used to locate the contact details of current AAESS Accredited Exercise Physiologists. Other General, Membership and AAESS Contact information may be found on this site.
The secured section of the AAESS website (password required - access available to members only) contains more specific details for members working in the Exercise and Sport Science industry. Some of the available information includes a list and details of regularly updated Positions Vacant (this list may provide you with a good ‘feel’ for the types of organisations where exercise and sport science graduates gain employment) as well as information about Insurance cover, Salary Scales, AAESS code of ethics, Member Details and the Continuing Education Program.

Some main job searching links
Different websites offer a variety of methods for searching. If you can identify which keywords to use and how to link them together you can save a lot of time and energy on your search. Some key words you may use: Exercise Physiology Exercise Physiologist Exercise and Rehabilitation Biomechanics Research and Exercise Exercise and Science
If you are particularly interested in a specific field often jobs are advertised through forum pages in that area, for example Biomech_L (biomechanics) or Sportscience.org, or in Research journals. Sign up for the forums and it will also increase your knowledge in that area.
Some Exercise and Sport Science graduates may be interested in gaining employment in the Fitness Industry. One of the past 'road-blocks' for our graduates to work in fitness centres and gymnasiums has been the requirement for completion of the Certificate 4 in Fitness (Fitness Industry Training Package course -at full cost and additional time-commitment). For those ESS graduates wishing to work within the fitness industry, there are now a few possible options to consider for gaining access to the industry. The main considerations would be a question of registration vs. qualification vs. both. There are two associations providing Fitness Professional Registration for ESS graduates – Kinect Australia and Fitness Australia; while a further group, Fitnation, have agreed to offer a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) from the Certificate 4 in Fitness to Sydney Uni ESS graduates if Management, Marketing and the Law is completed as a Unit of Study. Some of the positives and negatives the registration vs. qualification option are explained below: Kinect is a registration association. They are in competition with Fitness Australia (Fitness NSW is the state branch of FA). Originally Kinect were called Vicfit and they offered a state based registration system in Victoria only. In the past few years they changed their name to Kinect and became national. ESS graduates could go directly to Kinect and obtain registration and insurance. This would be the cheapest option for them. However, there are a few other considerations. They would not obtain the qualifications (Certificate III & IV in Fitness). The qualifications can only be issued by training providers (such as Fitnation). Some employers will only employ staff with the actual qualifications (however this may not always be such an issue with ESS graduates because of their degree qualifications). The other consideration is that Fitness Australia registration is more widely known throughout Australia and they have made a number of arrangements with other International registration associations. For example, Fitness Australia registration is recognized by REPS (UK). They are currently negotiating a mutual recognition system which will extend throughout Europe. This would be of assistance for those who are looking to travel and work overseas. Fitnation are happy to continue to offer the RPL arrangement to ESS graduates. This is not the cheapest option but will offer the Cert III & IV in Fitness. The Certificate IV registration fee is $200 (usual rate is $300) if students receive a full RPL. Without completion of Management, Marketing and the Law, an additional fee of $256 will be charged for the necessary module of the Certificate 4. To obtain the RPL, students should download the application from the Fitnation website, complete and send with a copy of their academic transcript. Contact details for Fitnation Pty Ltd are:
