Information about Postgraduate Programs |

The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Health Science (Exercise and Sport Science) degrees are offered by coursework. Students studying by coursework undertake a range of units from across the broad field of Exercise and Sport Science. Each unit of study has a sequence of lectures and laboratory classes, together with assessment items such as exams and assignments. These units will be conducted at an advanced level and will assume an undergraduate background in Human Physiology and Anatomy or Biomechanics.
Note that the coursework offerings have changed for 2006 to allow specialisation in Sports Performance or Clinical Exercise Science. Details may be found here.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) degrees are offered by research. Students studying by research undertake a thorough research project in an identified field. Some useful information about being a research student within our school may be found here.
Students applying for a research program must identify a potential research topic and supervisor from within the school. The current research programs within the school may be viewed on-line. Prospective research students are invited to discuss possible research project topics with members of staff who may be working in a relevant area before submitting their application for admission. In addition to the research facilities described elsewhere, the School of Exercise & Sport Science has a Computer Laboratory for Postgraduates. There are 8 PCs connected to a server, running Windows NT. In addition, all laboratories have their own computing resources attached.

Australian students with first class honours degrees are particularly encouraged to apply for Australian Postgraduate Award and University of Sydney Postgraduate Award Scholarships. The School of Exercise and Sport Science is particularly well placed to gain awards for outstanding applicants. In 2005, the value of these scholarships was $18,837 per annum, tax free, with additional funds available to support the candidature. Applications close on 30 October for commencement the following March.
International students may apply for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship . These awards usually only the cost of tuition, although outstanding applicants may also be awarded a stipend assisting living expenses. Applications must be received between 1 May and 31 August for commencement in the following year. Other scholarships for international students are listed here.
