Graduate Certificate of Health Science (Exercise and Sport Science)
24 credit points.
Full-time: 1 semester minimum
Part-time: 2 semesters minimum
The coursework for the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Exercise and Sport Science) is designed to provide an introduction to graduate studies in exercise and sport science and to provide a grounding in basic exercise and sport science for people involved in the exercise, health and fitness industry, or those who advise sports people in their professional practice. The course will be presented with the assumption that the student has a background knowledge of anatomy or physiology, or is prepared to acquire this prior to commencing the course.
Graduate Diploma of Health Science (Exercise and Sport Science)
36 credit points.
Full-time: 2 semesters minimum
Part-time: 3 semesters minimum
This course is designed to provide an opportunity for advanced study in exercise and sport science with a focus on the area of applied physiology, human mechanics, motor learning and exercise & rehabilitation. It is anticipated that this study will be an extension of the student’s prior training and professional role. The course will be presented with the assumption that the student has a background knowledge of anatomy or biomechanics and physiology.
Note: Students completing the Graduate Diploma in Exercise and Sport Science with a credit grade average may apply to proceed to the Master of Exercise and Sport Science (by Coursework).
Master of Exercise and Sport Science (by Coursework)
48 credit points.
Full-time: 2 semesters minimum
Part-time: 3 semesters minimum
This course aims to provide advanced study in the broad discipline of exercise and sport science. The course has two specialisations: Sports Performance and Clinical Exercise Science.
The Sports Performance specialisation focuses on assessment and development of performance at all levels of sporting endeavour. It is designed to equip graduates with an in-depth understanding of exercise physiology, biomechanics and applied research, together with the knowledge and skills to conduct exercise and performance testing of sportspersons and healthy individuals and to prescribe appropriate exercise training programmes.
The Clinical Exercise Science specialisation focuses on assessment and development of clinical exercise and exercise rehabilitation for individuals with disease or disability. It is designed to equip graduates with an in-depth understanding of exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise rehabilitation, exercise throughout the lifespan and applied research, together with the knowledge and skills to conduct exercise assessment of healthy ageing and symptomatic population groups, and prescribe appropriate exercise programs for these individuals.
Master of Exercise and Sport Science (Honours)
60 credit points.
Full-time: 3 semesters minimum
Part-time: 4 semesters minimum
This program is available to those Master of Exercise and Sport Science students who achieve a credit average and requires the completion of a student research project (Research Dissertation) specific to either the Sports Performance or Clinical Exercise Science specialisation.

Articulation to a Higher Award
The Graduate Diploma, Master’s and Master’s (Honours) programs constitute an articulated sequence.
All local candidates are required to initially enroll in the Graduate Diploma. Applied Physiology and Human Mechanics (6 credit points each) are compulsory. Subsequent articulation to the Master’s program is contingent on the student achieving a Credit grade average in the first 24 credit points of study undertaken. Articulation into the Master’s (Honours) program is contingent upon the student achieving a Credit average over 48 credit points.
International Students
International students wishing to complete graduate coursework in one year will enrol initially in the Graduate Certificate.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate (24 credit points) with a pass grade in Semester 1 may articulate to the Graduate Diploma and complete the Graduate Diploma part-time with 12 credit points from the electives offered in Semester Two.
Students who achieve an average credit grade in the Graduate Certificate may articulate to the Masters Degree and complete the Masters Degree with 24 credit points full time study in Semester Two.
